West Virginia expected to increase health care jobs 17% by 2020
According to a new Georgetown University study, health care jobs are expected to grow at a higher rate in most states than other job sectors. The study measured projected growth from 2010 through 2020.
West Virginia health care jobs are expected to increase 17 percent by 2020 to a total of 403,640 jobs, up from 313,190 jobs in 2010. This is compared to 10% growth across non health care sectors.
Nursing, allied, and support sector jobs are expected to grow by 26%, 26% and 38% respectively.
The job increase is partly in response to the recent supreme court ruling on health care, and an aging baby boomer population expected to increasingly be in need of medical care.
